We've just returned from 5 nights at the Marari Beach and we have to say, it ranks as one of our all time favourite hotel stays. Yes, the weather was very hot - we knew before we booked our trip to India what the temperature would be - but it really didn't detract from our stay! We booked the garden room with pool which was absolutely the right thing to do in the heat. On one of the days after breakfast, we simply didn't leave our plunge pool in our own private patio area. The room was spacious with excellent aircon; there was a fridge with a stocked mini bar - prices the same as at the hotel bar. There's also plenty of room in the fridge to keep any extra drinks you have cold. We walked into the nearby strip a couple of times and picked up cans of coke for about 40 rupees (40p). There's also a kettle in the room, with a cafetiere and a restocked supply of ground coffee, which kept me very happy! Again, we knew before we booked that the sea tended to be a bit rough to swim. Really warm water and we paddled a little; they have a lifeguard there if you want to go in (husband did, and managed to lose his sunglasses in a big wave!), but it's not really expected that people will spend a lot of time on the beach. The pool area is huge and was quite empty when we were there - but again, we chose to spend most of our time in our private plunge pool. Food and drink was excellent. We particularly enjoyed a breakfast healthy drink called a 'swizzle' which was honey and ginger and apple cider vinegar. Good mix of Indian and western breakfast food. We ate at the Beach Grill restaurant one night which was fine. Pizza at the beach shack one night; 2 nights in the main restaurant which was excellent, and our favourite night, we did the 'Farm Kitchen' event where a chef takes you into the organic garden to pick all the ingredients, and then in the outside kitchen, cooks the meal for you whilst talking through all the techniques. It was a FANTASTIC evening - just the two of us there, and I'd like to compliment Chef Siben on such a superb and well delivered activity. We had a great 2 hour bird walk with Shibu, who is the resort naturalist, on the first morning. This free activity should be a priority. Shibu is such a font of knowledge, and brought his spotting scope out so we could see all the birds and owls. The staff in their entirety were engaging and helpful. I'd like a shout out to Bincy and Jithin in the main restaurant for always going above and beyond. We didn't really appreciate the value for money at the resort until we returned via an airport hotel in Mumbai where the prices for the same drinks and similar food were exactly double. Not only would we not hesitate to return, we're now researching other CGH Earth hotels for future travels, based on our experience here.

The hotel grounds are lovely. There is a large pool which was nice but water too hot! But that, Is because it was so hot during our stay. We were SO looking forward to staying at Marari Beach because of the 10km Long Beach. However, on our first beach walk we were very disappointed to see all the stray dogs, as well as a dead dog! Also, all the garbage was simply a shame. Horrible!! No one seems bothered by all the garbage or the stray dogs. You can’t get into the ocean because its current is so strong. There are sunbeds but no sun umbrellas shame ! :(( Overall, our stay was okay. The staff were very kind and helpful. Unfortunately, we shall most likely not return to this hotel.

a place for natures lovers is what I would describe it as. Located at an offbeat located but widely spread , its a huge hotel. Lot of activities for nature lovers and located bang on beach. The food is good. However they should have. more variety for Indians. Offering combo meals as midnight snack is also suggested. There is no other sightseeing location nearby so make sure you visit this place only and only to unwind and relax. I would suggest taking an MAP plan as being a luxury hotel the rates are on a higher side for Ala carte.

We enjoyed our 4 days! Setting was lovely, nice big gardens, gorgeous vast white sandy beach, v well planted areas. Amazing butterfly garden and very interesting kitchen garden. Lots and lots of birds. We stayed in the three wonderful deluxe pool villas. V spacious. Huge pools, outdoor showers etc. Really good. Main pool was large but we never sat there as we had our own pools. The one day we did try there were no empty Sun loungers by mid morning. Food was consistently good. We ate well and good value, too. Service in all restaurants was very mixed. Many staff untrained. Not much of a smile from most. Clearly just a job. Somewhat efficient usually but nothing more. Elsewhere in Kerala we met so many warm and friendly people, so it is certainly not a cultural point. The hotel was crying out for a decent bar. Cocktails were at best very average, tasted very watery and at the same price as a high end London cocktail bar! Good activities on offer. The owl watching was terrific and the guy who led it was so friendly and knowledgeable. Archery was excellent too. All free of charge. Check in was excellent, check out was very poor and left a bit of a sour taste. Shame. Overall I would recommend, but I do think many of the other ratings are a bit inflated.
